House of Prime Rib

Last week was my birthday, and my Mom, Dad and I went out to dinner at the House of Prime Rib! it was a lot of fun! My dad's prime rib was a cut with a bone, and when it was time to go our waiter was nice enough to get us another one so both dogs could have one! The next morning Finn and West got to celebrate my birthday dinner with their bones! Westly got the bigger of the two and Finn the smaller. Here they are:

Finley did not know what to do with such a big bone!! Haha, she was quite bewildered. Normally she takes something too big to eat in one (very tiny corgi-sized; I swear, she is the daintiest eater I have ever met!) bite, and runs out to her bed to eat it before coming back for more. But when my mom gave it to her, rather than take it from her hand, Finn just started licking it! She tried to bite it, but I honestly don't think she likes to open her mouth that wide! She'd try, then close her mouth, lick at it, try to nibble it, than than lick it some more. We finally got her to carry it out, but she gripped it by such a tiny bite that she dropped it pretty quickly! It was very funny. Eventually we just set it outside and let her eat it there. Here she is licking it-- it IS pretty big compared to her little mouth!!

That was last Friday, and today the bones are quite clean and you'd never guess they were once meat and gristle covered! Finn is still gnawing at the marrow and now that they are small and light, she is carrying them around...she shouldn't have them on the rug, and was kicked out with them right after this, but for picture purposes I enabled her. Sorry, Mom!! :)

Paws for a Cause

A good friend of mine, known to Finn as Aunty A, is very involved in our local American Cancer Society chapter's Relay for Life work, and the other day she called us up and told us to come down to our favorite park because they were doing a Paws for a Cause fundraiser! We had never been to one and so off we went! Even though we couldn't get there until the gathering was beginning to wind down, A saved Finn a goody bag and decked her out in purple Paws for a Cause gear!

The dogs walk for much the same reasons as people do in the Relays for Life-- to raise awareness and money for cancer research and support. Often they are not allowed on the private tracks where the relays are held, so organizers created this little sub set, Paws for a Cause, for them! It's a really cool idea. Hopefully we will get to participate even more! I will keep you posted :)

Here is Finn and me, (my hat about to fall off) showing off her scarf! She looks good in purple:

And here she is playing on the beach afterward! I haven't put her in the shirt  yet, but you can bet I will soon! hehe

I love this idea of donating some time and effort, and having fun (and good socialization practice for Finn!) at the same time, for a good cause. I think I would like to do more of it with her. Hopefully we can do more Paws walks, but I know there are lots of opportunities out there. Anyone have any ideas?

Hope you are all having a great weekend!! <3

Ein

So, I imagine many (if not all) of you are familiar with the anime cartoon Cowboy Bebop, seeing as I hardly meet a soul who doesn't associate corgis with the fabulous corg, Ein, on the show. I have also met a fair number of Eins out on corgi walks.

But it wasn't until a week or so ago that I finally saw a couple episodes! A friend downloaded the ones that really feature the super-brainy corgi so I could see them, and of course I loved them! I am in the process of getting my hands on the whole series now.

Have you seen the show? I figured since I only knew of it, there might be a few of you out there who might be interested in the recommendation. It's good! you should rent or netflix it!

The plots revolve around a team of intergalactic bounty hunters who go out and catch bad guys. At one point they are chasing a bad guy who has stolen a top-secret suitcase from an experimental lab, and no one knows what is inside! It turns out an ultra-smart corgi is inside, who later joins their team, and for much of the show the humans are oblivious to the fact that their furry companion is running mental circles around them. Ocassionally he steps in and covertly solves a mystery :) Sound like your dog?? hehe

Apparently Ed, who is seen above next to Ein, may be able to communicate with Ein and might have an idea about how smart he really is. Ed is a super girl computer hacker who is very goofy. I really like her :)

smile!

It's been a while since Finn and I had a good photo of the two of us together...so we tried the other day in the park! I like our attemps.

Here is Finley, setting the scene. I love these huge balls-- I have pictures of me on them when I was small! They're on a walk way, on pedastals, and the perfect height for her to stand on so we can both be in the photo and I don't have to try to juggle her and the camera :)

Take one: kisses!!

and take 2: in which Finley looks squat and stretched back by the ears

bahahaha...the look on her face makes me laugh every time. We were so close to both looking okay, too! I think next time I'll ask someone to take it for me :)  Do you and your corg take lots of photos together? and do they make that ears-back goofy face, too??

The Ladies

For a long time now my mom has had quite a commute to work, and on her way home she avoids traffic and goes through the park. She gets to know regular fixtures of her route-- the cars and toll booth attendees and such who are all out at the same time she comes home every day. One of her favorite "regulars" is a pair of ladies who walk their dogs-- alternating between having them out frisking about and having them ride in baby buggies. I think the two little dogs are older and not up to the whole, long walk? Thus the strollers :)

My mom is always happy to see them and tells me about them, but I've never seen them! So the other day she pulled over and asked to take their picture! They probably thought she was crazy, but I'm really glad she did! So, without further ado, here are The Ladies! and their little dogs, too!

I love that they like being in the buggies! I was one of those children who tried to convince pets to play the part of a baby doll, with relatively little luck-- and these two really like looking out and getting fresh air! It seems like the best of both worlds-- running around, and then being strolled. It's incredibly thoughtful of their ladies!!

Here they are frisking! My mom said the ladies told her they were rescue dogs who wanted to come together-- they had bonded at the rescue shelter and so the ladies took them both home! Lucky little pups :)

p.s. if The Ladies find my blog, I want to say hello, and thank them for letting my Mom take photos!

Tulip Garden!

To continue our Golden Gate Park excursion, here is Finn in Queen Wilhelmina's Tulip Garden, which at this time of year is mostly fully of poppies. She definitely snuck into a group of Japanese tourists' photo!! haha, they were actually very pleased with this.

Every time I tried to sneakily back away to take a picture of little tiny Finn below the windmill, she'd catch me and zoom over to where I was! It turned into a fun chase game, but no good for a full shot. This is as close as I got...she makes me think of a little mountain goat in a Heidi-like setting :)

Here's the actual windmill from a little ways away! Beautiful, no?

Spring Roses

Finn and I went to Golden Gate Park the other day to stretch our legs and look at some of our favorite gardens before they leapt into summertime blooms. Finn had never really been there before and we had a great time!! She sure gets a lot of attention from strangers...do you find that happens to your corgi, too? I think it's partly because she is always having so much fun running and sniffing, and enthusiasm in contagious, and also because she is a corgi and we all know corgis are verrrrry cute! and they smile!

Here is Finley sniffing her FIRST rose!!! One of the few that had already bloomed in the rose garden:

Still exploring! I sought out the early bloomers. Can you spot the corgi butt??

Hope you all are wrapping up a wonderful weekend!!! :)
